Fundamental fairness just destroyed Biden’s best excuse for punishing millionaires and billionaires
You know the old joke about paying your taxes. Figure out what you make. This is what you owe the government.
Democrats are always starved for cash. It doesn’t matter how much they collect. The more money they take in, the more they spend and then they use our depleted reserves as proof Americans aren’t taxed enough.
President Biden’s favorite excuse for a massive tax increase is the usual fiction that the wealthy don’t pay their fair share. It’s hackneyed, trite, and tiresome, but year after year this lie never dies and never will as long as America has millionaires and billionaires to blame for Democrats not having enough to spend.
This is the truth:

Facts seldom matter to the left and neither does tax fairness. Biden has his sights set on raising $4.7 trillion more,1071 primarily from taxpayers whose high incomes are deemed prima facie evidence that they aren’t paying enough.
There are exceptions, of course. One of those is the president’s son Hunter, who was indicted last week for evading taxes in an amount that exceeds what it takes to be a millionaire.
Biden claims millionaires are taxed less than teachers
During a November 28, 2023 campaign appearance the president attacked Donald Trump and the GOP for not taking enough from corporations, billionaires, and millionaires, who he claims pay less in taxes than teachers:
It’s clear that the Speaker and Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans are determined to protect the tax cuts that are ridiculously low for the corporations, as well as billionaires who are paying less — and millionaires who are paying less than school teachers in a percent of wages that they pay. They oppose any investment for working people.1072
Whatever statistical sleight of hand “percent of wages that they pay” is supposed to represent, the economic havoc wreaked by Bidenomics renders government investment pointless. High prices and interest rates gobble up any gains and make buying a house or even purchasing a car unaffordable while tax dollars are diverted to left-wing boondoggles like the Green New Deal’s Inflation Reduction Act, which the president claims will help “restore fairness” to the tax code. 1073
Fundamental fairness? Pay your taxes unless you’re a Biden and the DOJ is watching your back
Calling Bidenomics a “blue-collar blueprint for America,” the president implores millionaires and billionaires to pay what they owe:
I’m a capitalist. The poor do well. And guess what? You can still be a millionaire or billionaire, except one thing: Pay your taxes. (Applause.) Pay your taxes.1074
He’s a big fan of repetition, so this isn’t the first time we’ve heard this:
I’m a capitalist. I think if you can go make a billion dollars, go make it. I’m all for that. Just pay your taxes. (Laughter.)1075
The laughter stopped on Thursday.
Fundamental fairness restored? Not exactly
Now that fundamental fairness finally intervened and the president’s son is indicted on the tax evasion charges that haven’t yet run out the statute of limitations, it’s time for the president to rethink his position on taxing the wealthy. Should we give millionaires a pass to make Hunter’s misstep look less egregious, set our sights on billionaires or better yet, ramp up the focus on auditing gig workers and the cash economy?
The IRS audits those who make less than $200,000 at a higher rate because it brings the best bang for the audit buck:
Audit rates decreased the most for taxpayers with incomes of $200,000 and above. According to IRS officials, these audits are generally more complex and require staff’s review. Lower-income audits are generally more automated, allowing IRS to continue these audits even with fewer staff.1076
In fact, those at the bottom of the income scale make for the most profitable audits:
Audits of the lowest-income taxpayers, particularly those claiming the EITC, resulted in higher amounts of recommended additional tax per audit hour compared to all income groups except for the highest-income taxpayers.1077
This is exactly what Republicans warned about when they blasted plans to use Inflation Reduction Act spending to hire tens of thousands of IRS agents.
No one should blame the president for his son’s actions. Many a parent has a son or daughter they are less than proud of, but White House overkill on paternal pride is part of Biden’s problem:
But that’s what I’m going to — I’m not going to go beyond tell- — telling you all what the President has said over and over again. He’s proud of his son, and he is proud of him — proud of him building his life back up.1078
Excusing tax evasion is not about pride. It’s an affront to America’s doctrine of fundamental fairness already mocked by the persecution of Biden’s probable 2024 opponent by a weaponized, whole of government system of two-tiered Democrat Party justice.
Man with the Golden Arm has Dad With the Golden Job
The left needs a better argument than Man with the Golden Arm heroism to dismiss the indictment against the president’s son and what it could mean for the Biden presidency.
The president famously said that his son is the smartest guy he knows. Whether Hunter used that high IQ to find new and creative ways to enrich the Biden family is the “nothing to see here” elephant in the room.
It’s also possible that Hunter is just the rabbit patch, a sop to conservatives and Republicans fed up with the fundamental unfairness that characterizes a justice system hijacked by the radical left.
What we do know beyond any reasonable doubt is that this president no longer has any right to condemn millionaires for not paying their taxes and especially after his weaponized Department of Justice allowed the time to run out on charging Hunter for his 2014 and 2015 tax bill:
Rep. Michael Turner (R-Ohio) asked witnesses about Hunter Biden’s unpaid taxes on income from Burisma in 2014, which he attempted to categorize as a loan. Both whistleblowers testified that Hunter Biden owes $145,000 in unpaid taxes on $400,000 of income from 2014. Due to DOJ’s slow walking, the statute of limitations expired, allowing Hunter Biden to get away with this tax evasion.1079
This is a violation of fundamental fairness we can’t fix. Whether the latest move by the feds to indict Hunter is a deception to appease Americans looking for redress from the ongoing harassment and legal persecution of Trump remains to be seen, but it sure looks that way.
Hunter Biden is expendable. Joe doesn’t care that he’s destroying America, so why should he care about a son whose ability to bring in cash is over and done with and a growing threat to the Biden presidential legacy?

You are absolutely right, Sherri. Biden’s domestic policy disasters were bad enough, but now we have to worry about nuclear war for the first time in how many decades? We went from strong leadership to no leadership. Biden’s threats are hollow and meaningless and our adversaries know it. God only knows what he’ll come up with in Europe this week. That’s a perplexing question, Stephen. If the left is sincere about climate change a nuclear war isn’t going to solve their problem, but it seems that’s the direction the administration has chosen even if Biden doesn’t realize it.
As you point out, it seems the endgame really is to break our country socially, morally, and economically. As long as Democrats stay entrenched in power – and I don’t believe the midterms are secure or a slam dunk by any means – the damage won’t impact them. They will get richer and more powerful while the American people’s lives are decimated. After a time the people will thank the government for anything it permits, anything it offers, anything it lets us keep for ourselves. If history has a precedent, it’s every country that decided a socialist economy and authoritarian government was a good idea.

Desperate people will accept whatever they are offered. When people can’t afford to leave their homes to work, find empty shelves at the grocery store, and are left sweating in the summer heat because of rolling blackouts, they will accept any relief the government offers because they don’t have a choice. Nothing that is hurting us is by accident.

That’s a great question, PJ. They have to be smart enough to not completely destroy the economy so there is still enough of a tax base to fund their socialist handouts. Democrats don’t seem to worry about debt or the long-range consequences of what they are doing, so this doesn’t seem to be something that concerns them yet. If you took a survey and asked them how the government is funded, I wonder what their answers would be?

I’m not sure which allegations you are referring to, Gilbert, but Russian collusion was a Clinton campaign hoax and the Ukraine phone call charges didn’t pan out, either. The Hunter Biden issue is completely different. There is alleged hard evidence on a laptop in the FBI’s possession that was covered up by the media before the 2020 Election. Worse, the president’s statement that he knew nothing about his son’s business dealings have proved false. That’s the difference.

When Biden accused Republicans of semi-fascism he emphasized the battle lines and now, a year later we have four indictments against Trump to prevent him from running instead of letting voters make the decision at the ballot box.
I would never argue that Trump was a perfect president or the perfect conservatoire candidate, but at this point I don’t see anyone else in the field of GOP candidates who can defeat Biden and Democrats know it. Don’t pretend he’s the answer.
He’s part of the problem. But, and the left does this too, the right is so wound up in identity politics… they can’t see what’s right in front of them.
You don’t get to claim you’re a patriot, and then vote for a guy who would tear everything that people have died defending just to remain in power. It doesn’t work like that.
