UPDATE June 17, 2021:
Great thing about America #26: America’s president is a good liar
Sure, it’s politics. Truth is relative. Lies are part of the game, but if you are president of the United States and you are going to lie in a public forum you should at least make an effort to lie well. Some Americans want to admire and respect our Commander in Chief. When the complete absence of truthfulness and integrity is spat into our face it’s shameful and embarrassing. When blatant, partisan lies come in the context of foreign policy they are downright destructive and damaging.
This question came from a reporter on Joe Biden’s safe, hand-picked reporter list after his meeting with Vladimir Putin:
Mr. President, when President Putin was questioned today about human rights, he said the reason why he’s cracking down on opposition leaders is because he doesn’t want something like January 6th to happen in Russia. And he also said he doesn’t want to see groups formed like Black Lives Matter. What’s your response to that, please? 77
This was the president’s response:
My response is kind of what I communicated — that I think that’s a — that’s a ridiculous comparison. It’s one thing for literally criminals to break through cordon, go into the Capitol, kill a police officer, and be held unaccountable than it is for people objecting and marching on the Capitol and saying, “You are not allowing me to speak freely. You are not allowing me to do A, B, C, or D.”78
I don’t know who tells Biden what to say in response to questions he has probably been briefed on beforehand. The truth is that no police officers were killed by the Capitol rioters no matter how often the left repeats this lie. The medical examiner concluded that Brian Sicknick, the officer who died after the January 6 riot, succumbed to natural causes. While his death is tragic, we have no information to support the president’s false claim that the rioters killed a police officer.
The only victim of violence was Ashli Babbitt. She was shot dead. The Biden administration isn’t talking about what happened to her.
The big problem for Biden and America’s credibility is that the medical examiner’s report on Officer Sicknick is old news from two months ago. Everyone knows the president was lying.
As far as Biden’s assertion that the Democrat Party’s “Insurrectionists” were not held accountable, was he suggesting that the Black Lives Matter rioters mentioned by the reporter were? Their crimes were justified by the people who put the president in office. Lucky for Joe no one asked about that.
UPDATE June 24, 2021:
Great thing about America #27: our cities are wonderful places to visit
America’s great cities depend on tourists and business visitors. They suffered last year. Tourism evaporated. The hospitality industry shut down. Now cities are reopening. They are ready for revenue, but some of our top tourist cities have a new problem. How many visitors will take their lives in their hands and visit?
Enter President Biden. He has a plan to deal with the gun violence that is exploding because the radical left’s take on policing just doesn’t work. According to Attorney General Merrick Garland:
Protecting our communities from violent crime is a top priority for the Department of Justice and one of our most important responsibilities.79
That’s reassuring, considering crime is going up and not down. What does this mean? It means ramping up ATF inspections and going after gun dealers that “pose the greatest risk to public safety.”80
Biden is an expert on gun violence:
For folks at home, here’s what you need to know: I’ve been at this a long time and there are things we know that work that reduce gun violence and violent crime, and things that we don’t know about.81
If he knows so much, why didn’t he figure out that the Democrat Party’s activist anti-policing stance was as loud and clear a message to criminals as the administration’s invitation to illegal immigrants?
No matter what the president says to align with his party’s anti-Republican, anti-gun narrative the violence that will keep tourists away from our cities is not going to stop if you ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines. If you visit Chicago or Atlanta or New Orleans and get shot, what do you think the chances are that the thug who shoots you will be using anything other than a handgun?
Our president worries about violent conservatives:
Those who say the blood of lib- — “the blood of patriots,” you know, and all the stuff about how we’re going to have to move against the government. Well, the tree of liberty is not watered with the blood of patriots.82
According to Biden it will take F-15s and nukes to mount a successful attack on Washington, not that anyone has that on their calendar at the moment except fear-mongering Democrats.
So while the president talks nonsense and nuclear weapons gangs are killing innocent people and children unfortunate enough to get in the way. Carjackings happen in broad daylight. Expressway shootings are commonplace. Even the Loop and the Gold Coast are not off limits in Chicago. Who would risk travelling there for business or pleasure?
It’s too bad for our tourist cities that Joe Biden’s gun violence plan isn’t about the kind of gun violence that keeps people safe on the streets. It’s about the gun violence rhetoric that the Democrat Party uses to score points against Republicans and excuse more social spending to “make sure young people pick up a paycheck instead of a pistol.”83
Paycheck instead of a pistol? Sounds like a new White House slogan has arrived.
UPDATE July 1, 2021:
Great thing about America #28: respect for our highest court
No politician tolerates legislating from the bench when the judge or justice doesn’t agree to do what they want. That’s why Republicans accuse liberal judges of legislating from the bench, Democrats say the same thing about conservative-leaning courts, and there is no such thing as legislating from the bench when a decision aligns with your views.
There is a difference between being unhappy with the outcome of a case and disrespecting America’s highest court because it refused to endorse your politics. That’s what Joe Biden did today after he got the bad news about the Supreme Court decision on Arizona’s voting law in Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee:
While this broad assault against voting rights is sadly not unprecedented, it is taking on new forms. It is no longer just about a fight over who gets to vote and making it easier for eligible voters to vote. It is about who gets to count the vote and whether your vote counts at all. 83
These days if something Democrats don’t like isn’t racist then it’s an attack on our democracy. SCOTUS’ decision was no exception:
The attack we are seeing today makes clearer than ever that additional laws are needed to safeguard that beating heart of our democracy.84
That’s a perplexing remark. The Supreme Court is the branch of government charged with safeguarding the true heart of our democracy, the Constitution. The president clarified his statement later by assuring us:
The Court’s decision, harmful as it is, does not limit Congress’ ability to repair the damage done today: it puts the burden back on Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act to its intended strength. 85
Is he referring to H.R. 1 or something similar? He might want to check with Senate Republicans first. At least the president has America to rely on:
That means forging a coalition of Americans of every background and political party – from advocates, activists, and business executives – to raise the urgency of the moment and demand that our democracy truly reflects the will of the people and that it delivers for the Nation.86
Good idea, Joe. We’ll remember the will of the people when critical race theory shows up in our kids’ schools and a busload of illegals gets dumped in our community.
The president concluded that “Democracy is on the line.”87 This is another lie, of course. American Democracy is alive and well. Democrats’ insistence that voting be as free, open, unregulated, and unrestricted as our Southern border without the slightest commonsense protections for this most fundamental of American rights is what puts democracy in jeopardy and disrespects the right to vote, one of the truly great things about America that Biden plans to destroy.
In all honesty I suspect that Brnovich is not what made him so angry. This doesn’t bode well for his showy lawsuit against Georgia and the president knows it. If the Georgia case makes it all the way to the top and SCOTUS shoots it down will the court be racist, too?
UPDATE July 5, 2021:
Great thing about America #29: equality, our “corny” unalienable rights, and America’s worthiness
It’s always possible that Joe Biden departed from his script and made the unwise decision to go it alone when he told a group of 21 new Americans assembled for a naturalization ceremony:
But there is one thing that does define us a country: We were founded on an idea that, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men [and women] are created equal…endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…Life, Liberty, [and] the pursuit of Happiness.” It sounds corny to Americans, as we learn this in grade school and high school. We’ve never fully lived up to it, but we’ve never, ever, ever walked away from it. Every generation opens that aperture a little bit wider. 88
Let’s ignore the backhanded compliment about not living up to the Declaration’s rights. I don’t believe that equality, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are corny and neither do I think that most non-Biden supporters agree. The president’s words are ripped straight from the Declaration of Independence. No matter how much derision Democrats may hold for our founding documents, many of us still hold them in high patriotic regard.
Granted, equality is on the way out as socialist equity systematically replaces this fundamental American value. As far as liberty and the pursuit of happiness are concerned, equity comes first in Biden’s White House and that means our freedoms and happiness are up for grabs so others with more value to the Democrat Party can be placated.
I give these 21 individuals tremendous credit for doing the right thing. Under this administration it’s all too easy to skip the hard work of becoming a citizen when you can simply stumble across the border with your hand out. Apparently it doesn’t mean much to Biden, either. He sounds as if there is a competition for which country these immigrants want to live in:
So I want to thank you all for choosing us, and I mean that sincerely. Thank you for choosing the United States of America, believing that America is worthy of your aspirations, worthy of your dreams. 89
Why wouldn’t America be worthy, Joe?
