Liars Govern America. Why Won’t Democrats Tell the Truth?

UPDATE February 19, 2023:

Democrats Jeffries and Cuellar want credit for the border and they deserve it.

Someone on Hakeem Jeffries’ staff should have reminded him that if you have nothing to say it’s better to keep your mouth shut. Instead, the House Democratic leader made a trip to Laredo, Texas for a press event where he ran his mouth in the company of
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and credited his president and party for what they have accomplished at the border.

They deserve credit, but it’s not the credit they are looking for.

Cuellar: we just need to be sensible

Cuellar was the perfect choice to share the praise for Democrats’ border success story. A few months before Joe Biden took over and opened our sovereign boundary with Mexico to the world the Texas congressman declared:

A Border Wall Has No Home in South Texas.³⁵⁶

He claimed that visa overstays were the root cause of illegals living in the U.S.:

The border wall has not solved the root cause of our unauthorized aliens living in the U.S.: visa overstays. According to DHS, since 2007, visa overstays have accounted for a larger share of the growth in the illegal immigrant population than illegal border crossings.³⁵⁷

Cuellar warned that a wall would not stop human or illegal drug trafficking:

A physical barrier does not address the illicit trafficking of people and narcotics or the issues surrounding illegal immigration.³⁵⁸

What we really need is to just be sensible:

If the Trump Administration wants to talk about sensible border security, then let’s talk.³⁵⁹

When Joe Biden stepped into the Oval Office Cuellar got the sensible border security Democrats wanted. Their illegal immigrant invasion was underway.

Jeffries: liar Trump’s un-American border policies stain our democracy

In 2018 Jeffries’ attacked President “Trump’s Immoral Immigration Penitentiary”³⁶⁰ as part of his party’s strategy for coping with an onslaught of unaccompanied minors. The congressman was incensed over the administration’s efforts to deal with illegal immigration:

This immoral policy is unacceptable, un-American and unconscionable. Republicans control the House, the Senate and the Presidency. They are solely responsible for staining our democracy and scarring children for life. The so-called President must end this policy now and stop lying to the American people.³⁶¹

Beginning in January 2021 Democrats controlled the House, the Senate and the presidency. They had two years to fix the problem. It got much worse. Lies substitute for Biden administration transparency. Vocal party apparatchiks substitute misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda for the truth. That includes Jeffries, who praised Biden and his party for their efforts to secure the border:

One of the things that we’ve been able to do with the leadership of President Biden, as well as Democrats in the House and the Senate is to invest in technology. And it was very enlightening to see the importance of how that technology is being deployed to try and secure the border, to try to make sure that contraband is interdicted in an appropriate way and to supplement the limitations of manpower, resources and almost all of the stakeholders within the law enforcement community at the federal level, also at the city and the county level, have made clear that it’s that technology that’s been helpful, but that technology is also needed to continue to supplement their efforts. ³⁶²

He demanded a solution that involves two American values Democrats discarded when Biden took over:

We do need a comprehensive immigration reform that is both humane but also respects the rule of law and the tradition of public safety and the importance of that for border communities.³⁶³

Then he credited Cuellar for their fentanyl strategy:

Everyone has been pretty clear with us today that it will be that investment in technology and innovation that will dramatically increase our ability to stop the flow of fentanyl and other drugs into the United States of America. That’s something that House Democrats have led on, Congressman Cuellar has been involved in this effort, in investing in technology and innovation for a long time and it’s something that we look forward to continuing with.³⁶⁴

Neither lawmaker presented any data or statistics or tried to explain why after we halted the border wall construction Cuellar advocated or made the technology investments Jeffries highlighted we still hear reports like this from Chief Patrol Agent for the Tucson Sector John Modlin:

I can tell you that in fiscal year ‘18, ‘19, and ‘20, Tucson sector had about 60,000 apprehensions. In 2021, 190,000 apprehensions, so we tripled the previous year… Last year it quadrupled, last year it was 250,000. We’re 20,000 ahead right now so we went from what I would describe as unprecedented to a point where I don’t have the correct adjective to describe what’s going on.”³⁶⁵

According to the House Committee on Homeland Security this is what Democrats and Biden have done for us:

Since President Biden has been in office, there have been over 4.5 million migrant encounters at the Southwest border, in addition to over 1.2 million known gotaways who evaded U.S. Border Patrol agents in the last two years. This is larger than the population of Los Angeles, California, the second largest city in the United States.³⁶⁶

They also deserve kudos for this:

Fact: Over 100,000 deaths associated with fentanyl just last year. Fact: Border crossings are at an all-time high. Fact: Millions of gotaways are in this country and those have been increasing more in the last two years than ever before. Fact: Only 14 percent of those seeking asylum are legitimate asylum seekers.³⁶⁷

There is a reason everything Cuellar and Jeffries said is in future tense: Democrats will try. We need legislation. Our ability to interdict China and Mexico’s fentanyl shipments will increase. None of this is happening in the present while their illegal immigrant invasion surges as the administration circumvents our sovereignty and strives to bring as many foreign nationals into America as possible. When Trump enforced a secure border Jeffries accused him of “lying to the American people.” Who are the liars now?

Americans read the numbers. We see the footage on television. It takes a phenomenal disdain for our intelligence to seek credit for what hasn’t happened while doing nothing to prevent the catastrophe that began to unfold over two years ago while politicians like Jeffries, Cueller, and Biden tap dance around the truth.

UPDATE February 27, 2023:

Jeffries spreads the Democrat lie that won’t die.

With so many Biden-precipitated crises like our undeclared war to remove Vladimir Putin, America’s growing subservience to the CCP, and an economy faltering from inflation thanks to Democrat agenda spending, it would be reasonable to assume that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has something more worthwhile to do than disinform the public. That assumption would be wrong.

Last Thursday, he accused Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) of “slanderous accusations” against Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) but neglected to say what those accusations were so we could decide for ourselves whether Gooden is a xenophobe or Jeffries is the one doing the slandering. The next day, he posted a media interview to his congressional website during which he dished up the quintessential Democrat Party lie about January 6 that’s been repeated so many times it should be denounced as “tell enough lies” propaganda:

Approximately 140 Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Department officers were seriously injured as a result of the events of the January 6 insurrection, a handful of officers actually lost their lives. And so this was one of the most serious instances of violence toward our government in the history of this country and it cannot simply be dismissed.³⁶⁸

As Glenn Greenwald points out in a Substack article reprinted on the House website, ³⁶⁹ no police officers died at the hands of the rioters that day and yet this falsehood is a mainstay of the growing Democrat Party mythology about January 6th and a Biden personal favorite.

As Democrats celebrated the first anniversary of the Capitol riot, the president assured us that he spoke “God’s truth about January 6th, 2021.” He cautioned “don’t kid yourself” as he talked of the “deadly assault,” and an officer “who lost his life defending this Capitol” and “the others who lost their lives.”³⁷⁰

The president and his party are the ones doing the kidding. The only fatality on January 6 was protester Ashli Babbit, who was shot by Capitol Police.

Vice President Kamala Harris also endorsed the tale of a “deadly assault” on the U.S. Capitol. She spoke of officers who “later succumbed to wounds, both visible and invisible.”³⁷¹ Presumably, innuendo gives her a convenient exit from the truth.

What is so unbelievably offensive about Democrats spreading this lie they desperately wish were true is their comparisons to seminal events in our history where scores of Americans actually were killed like the Civil War and the attack on Pearl Harbor. They rarely mention the loss of thousands on September 11 in this context, even though the death toll included 184 people killed in the Pentagon. Do they fear the conflict between identity politics and Islamic terror, do they worry we might compare terrorism to what happened during the summer of 2020 and in subsequent attacks against conservative symbols like pro-life health centers, or is this simply a matter of not wanting us to question their reconstruction of the events of January 6?

We don’t know what caused the stroke that took the life of Officer Brian Sicknick the day after the riot. It’s true that other officers involved in defending the Capitol later died by suicide. We will never know precisely why. The president champions his efforts to address suicide among high-risk populations like police officers and acknowledges that this is a pervasive problem:

At the same time, we have to do more to protect our officers’ mental health and emotional well-being. Suicide was the second-highest cause of death for law enforcement officers in 2021, surpassed only by COVID-19.³⁷²

The Capitol Police who faced the January 6 mob acted bravely and faced an incredibly difficult scenario. Perhaps we will find out more about what happened that day if the video footage is eventually released, a nod to transparency Democrats angrily oppose despite their delight in the release of Donald Trump’s tax returns and what look like staged photos of the documents seized during the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago.

Lies and innuendo about officers being killed on or because of January 6, 2021 construct a deliberately misleading partisan narrative. The simple fact is that the only violent January 6 death was the killing of a protester by police. The lie about police officers killed that day is kept alive by partisans like Biden, Harris, and Jeffries who bank on Americans not being sufficiently informed to know the difference between truth and fabrication, innuendo and facts.

Sadly, the Biden presidency seems determined to emphasize the irrelevance of the truth, a lack of honesty preferred by many Democrat officials in their communications with the public. As Democrats like to say to Senate Republicans, the House leader has an opportunity to work with the majority party for the benefit of the American people. Instead, we get this weaponized false narrative from Jeffries that reinforces the perception that nothing we hear from our government is true.
