If all Americans were blessed with a dose of common sense we wouldn’t do a lot of the things we like to do. We wouldn’t eat fast food, drink too much, smoke cigarettes, speed in our cars, visit shady websites, or enjoy any of the other habits we know we shouldn’t indulge.
There was a time when we prided ourselves on being able to do anything. We watched one of our own walk on the moon. We told Khrushchev to get his weapons out of Cuba – amazing by today’s standards – and he did.
In the talk a lot, but do little fantasyland of Washington the course of events can easily be changed by political opportunities that have nothing to do with the job at hand. As the National Defense Authorization Act was shepherded through the House last week, the application of the feared anti-immigrant label changed a debate that had absolutely nothing to do with immigrants and everything to do with perpetuating a Democratic lie.
Don’t blame Jeh Johnson. It’s not his fault. As Homeland Security Secretary overseeing Obama’s absurdly reckless immigration policies Johnson is tasked with an impossible, even offensive job. He has to justify DACA to everyone from oversight-obsessed senators to the president to the American people.
The consequences of the Republican failure to stand up to Obama’s immigration action may come faster than we feared (see: Broken GOP Leaders Take Their Last Stand). The Justice Department was busy last week. On Thursday the announcement came that an emergency motion for a stay of State of Texas v.
Do you think that out of control progressivism is responsible for the stupidity over amnesty that has been dominating the U.S. political scene? It’s not quite that complicated. Liberal politicians are pandering to people who have embraced cowardice as a way of life because they are easy marks.
Let’s get two things straight:
1. Obama’s executive immigration action is about rewarding Latino illegal immigrants.
2. Border security is a straw man, not a goal.
Only our president could feel so emboldened as to brazenly lie to the American people to benefit the largest and most politically important group of illegals, calling rewarding their behavior “accountability” while promising he will seal off the gateway to the Promised Land once and for all.
