Big Government

It doesn’t matter whether a Democrat or Republican is in the White House. Big government keeps getting bigger. Democrats grow government for their special reasons. Republicans grow it for theirs. The result is a bureaucratic monstrosity that costs too much and can’t be controlled.

Obama: big government divides and conquers

The largest big government intervention in years was the passage of the Affordable Care Act. The bill raised questions on everything from individual liberty to separation of church and state.

Under Obama we saw the dark side of big government with scandals like the IRS targeting of conservatives, collection of Associated Press phone records by the Department of Justice, and domestic spying by the NSA.

Divisive questions were raised about the reach of big government that ranged from the abuse of presidential power to the people’s dependence on a welfare state to whether Congress or the president decides who crosses our borders. These questions were never answered.

Now they are Donald Trump’s problem.

Trump: big government for conservative purposes

President Trump has his own ideas about big government from the other side of the ideological fence, but his agenda is endlessly complicated by a GOP that can’t agree to get along.

The failure of conservative big government health care made it appallingly obvious that Republicans are not nearly as adept at running our lives as their Democratic opponents. Now we’re on to tax reform. America will discover where conservatives draw the line between what we keep and what we are forced to hand over to Uncle Sam.

Biden: big government out of control

The 2020 election was the election we could not lose. Too much was at stake. We knew what a Biden presidency would mean for the country.

Trump lost. Now our big government is out of control. Congressional Democrats seek to dominate every aspect of our lives including a new assault on our incomes to fund their activist agenda. If Americans want to know just how damaging big government can be in the hands of progressive ideologues, this is our chance to find out.

Biden talked unity before he took over the White House. He maintains this fiction while the hypocrisy of his policies divides the nation to an extreme we haven't seen since the Civil War.

Civil unrest calls for more control and control calls for more big government. It's a dangerous revolving door that spins faster and faster and while our freedoms vanish and totalitarian rule replaces the promise of liberal solicitude.

What is the Big Government category about?

Big government category topics include privacy, accountability, law enforcement, and authoritarianism. One thing is certain. As long as the people can be convinced that we have something to gain from big government, Washington will keep growing with the excuse that it's all for the people.

Hospice Makes Dying Better: a Federal Benefit That Helps

Lt. J.G. Joseph F. Prokop, World War II Veteran

My father died last Wednesday. He was a World War II veteran and a good man with an infallible moral compass. He had been sick for a long time. For those of you who have not had the experience of watching a loved one leave this world despite the best efforts of medical science, know that dying can be difficult. The end doesn’t happen easily, but there are ways it can be made … [Read more...] about Hospice Makes Dying Better: a Federal Benefit That Helps

Initiatives Would Give Us Power to Stop Government

A lot of us pay our taxes online. We type in our dangerously private, personal information and trust government computers to protect us. State and federal revenue agencies don’t have a problem taking in money this way. It’s fast, efficient, and cheaper than paying people to sift through mountains of paper. That’s one of the great things about the digital age. The opportunities … [Read more...] about Initiatives Would Give Us Power to Stop Government

Prison Pipeline? School Spending is a Political Scam

November 1, 2015 by Bob Prokop Leave a Comment

Alcatraz, the "Rock." Coutesy National Park Service.

“Pipeline to prison” is a slogan you are going to hear many times over the next year. What it means is that no matter how much money taxpayers give to schools, kids are going from kindergarten to the big house because we aren’t paying enough. This should be a comfort to taxpayers in Chicago who just got whacked with the largest property tax increase in city history to pay for … [Read more...] about Prison Pipeline? Inclusion is a Dirty Word in New Health Exchange Bill

October 16, 2015 by Bob Prokop Leave a Comment

Obamacare Medicaid expansion

It started even before the first Obamacare health exchange took our money. An irresistible opportunity beckoned to turn inclusion into a dirty word. Despite all their promises, could Democrats find a way to give health care benefits to the one group they told us we would not have to pay for? Inclusion breaks a promise In his push to support adding our unauthorized … [Read more...] about Inclusion is a Dirty Word in New Health Exchange Bill

Conflict Minerals Compliance: Is Your Business Guilty?

August 23, 2015 by Bob Prokop 2 Comments

When I crossed paths with Dodd-Frank’s conflict minerals compliance rule I found new disrespect for how little Washington understands about business in general and manufacturing in particular. The Democratic Republic of Congo is a long way away, but the people responsible for Dodd-Frank suddenly seemed even more distant. Do U.S. businesses deserve to be held accountable for … [Read more...] about Conflict Minerals Compliance: Is Your Business Guilty?
