In just over four years we managed to downgrade our national credit and the American Dream. The goal used to be wealth and success. Now Americans are told we should strive to be members of the middle class (see: Presidential Powers Threaten From Ruined Illinois).
American Ideals and Values
I hate being tolerant. Tolerance is a burden. The worst thing about it is that you can’t embrace what this country stands for without endorsing tolerance. Here’s the conundrum: our core American values also include freedom of speech. How often do the two conflict?
Conservatives need to be careful how we pick our shots. We can thank the Supreme Court for striking a unifying blow with last week’s same-sex marriage decision, but will we end up shaking our heads after taking up a losing battle we shouldn’t have wasted our time with?
With John Kerry parading around the Middle East we are sure to hear a few vacuous remarks about religious freedom from a part of the world where the idea has no meaning. Americans are loath to rethink religious freedom and even insist it be imposed worldwide on those who don’t have the slightest notion what we are referring to and who would be angry if they figured it out.
