As taxpayers do we pay to crack down on illegal workers or do we pay to protect America’s immigrant workforce? The answer is both. We fund enforcement to control illegal labor. Then we pay again because Congressional Democrats obstruct our efforts.
The consequences of the Republican failure to stand up to Obama’s immigration action may come faster than we feared (see: Broken GOP Leaders Take Their Last Stand). The Justice Department was busy last week. On Thursday the announcement came that an emergency motion for a stay of State of Texas v.
Let’s get two things straight:
1. Obama’s executive immigration action is about rewarding Latino illegal immigrants.
2. Border security is a straw man, not a goal.
Only our president could feel so emboldened as to brazenly lie to the American people to benefit the largest and most politically important group of illegals, calling rewarding their behavior “accountability” while promising he will seal off the gateway to the Promised Land once and for all.
It’s not like he didn’t warn us, so why did we let Obama pull temporary amnesty out of his bag of tricks and dump it in our laps on Thursday night? All the signs were there. He told us what he was going to do.
It has been a raucous summer for the GOP House. John Boehner’s threats to Obama flew, some right at the president, others at his Democratic enablers in the Senate. The White House plan to spend billions to aid foreign intruders went down the drain.
How angry should we be over the lies about the border that the Obama administration sold to the public? It was easy to swallow the half-truths and outright fabrications that summed up border policy until the administration got caught with its pants down by a bunch of illegal kids.
With hopes for amnesty fading there is no good reason for the Obama administration to continue pandering to conservatives with promises of a border control policy that will finally, once and for all, secure our southwest boundary with Mexico. Instead, we are going to go back to what the president’s party has wanted all along, legalization with the most feeble of nods to border control.
