Civil Candor values the security of the information you provide when you visit this site. We make every effort to protect this information.
What information does this website collect?
This site collects two types of information.
1.a. Information collected when you visit
1.a.1. Google Analytics
The information collected by GA is general, non-personally identifiable information such as browser type (e.g. Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome), network, operating system, and general geographic location. Any information entered into our site’s search box is also stored by GA.
GA collects the IP addresses of visitors, but this information is not accessible to us. Our GA settings anonymize IP addresses to make them less identifiable to Google.
1.a.2. Sucuri Website Firewall
This website is protected by a web application firewall. The firewall collects information about visitors including landing page URL or search query, IP address, browser, country, date/time of the visit, and the action(s) taken on our website. The firewall and the information collected are used for security to protect our visitors, their information, and the site. The information is not used or shared by the site owner other than to guard against potential breaches in site security (e.g., malicious queries or hacking attempts).
1.a.3. Webhost: SiteGround
SiteGround is the webhost for CivilCandor.com. The SiteGround server logs information about all website visitors including IP address, time of visit, the URL accessed, the size (amount) of data the server sent to the visitor, the web address the visitor came from, and the visitor’s browser.
1.b. Information you provide
If you leave a comment you have the option to provide your name, email address, website, and any other information you choose to add to the text of the comment. All of these fields are voluntary. The information you enter is saved.
If you decide to provide your email address CivilCandor.com does not share the address with other parties or use it in any way. Your email address is not revealed to visitors of this website and does not appear with your comment.
Any other personally identifiable information you provide in the context of your comment is voluntary and subject to your discretion and the moderation policy of this site.
1.b.2 Search box
If you search for information on Civil Candor by entering a query into the search box that information will be passively transmitted to and stored by Google Analytics, the Sucuri firewall log, and our SiteGround webserver. It is not shared with any party.
1.b.3 Contact Form
When you fill out Civil Candor’s contact form the information you provide is stored on our website server. It is not used for any purpose other than providing our readers with a convenient way to communicate with the site owner.
There are three basic types of cookies that can be installed on your browser when you visit a website.
1. Persistent cookies remain on your browser until they expire.
2. Session cookies are deleted when you shut down your browser after visiting a website.
3. Third party cookies are placed on your computer by a website that is different from the website you are visiting.
If you comment on this site there is a checkbox on the comment form so that you can opt in to a comment cookie being installed on your browser.
If you choose to not allow Google Analytics to install cookies on your browser for this or any site, you can visit this page for instructions on how to install an add-on to block the cookies.
You can also configure your computer browser or electronic device (e.g. cell phone, tablet PC) so that you do not accept cookies and are not tracked by websites that you visit. Cookies can also be cleared from your browser(s). The procedure is different depending on the browser you are using. Here are links to the instructions for the five most popular browsers:
3. Social media
This site uses social media icons that link to Civil Candor’s social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus.
If you do not click on one of the icons no information is collected or transmitted.
If you click on one of the icons but are not logged in to the applicable social media site using your account information data may be collected by the social media site and the site may also set cookies which are beyond the control of this website.
If you click on one of the social media icons and are logged in or log into your own social media account then additional user information may be collected by the respective social media site. These sites have their own privacy policies that govern the use of your information.
Civil Candor does not receive or collect any information concerning your use of social media with the exception of comments you choose to post on one of this website’s social media pages. In the event you choose to leave a comment on our Facebook or Google Plus pages or communicate with us via Twitter, that information will be stored on that social media site but is not otherwise used by this website’s owner.
4. Geolocation Database
This site uses GeoLite2 City database. The database is updated monthly and identifies the geographic location of IP addresses so the site’s cookie banner is displayed only to visitors from countries covered by the regulations of the GDPR. The IP addresses are saved for seven days and are not used for any purpose other than displaying the banner.
5. Links to other sites
Content on CivilCandor.com may contain links to other websites and online resources. Links to these sites do not constitute an endorsement and CivilCandor.com cannot be responsible for the content, privacy policies, or practices of these sites.

7. Legal process
In the event any visitor information is requested as part of a court or other judicial or law enforcement proceeding, that information will be transmitted in accordance with the law governing that particular request or proceeding.
