UPDATE January 26, 2020: freedom from democracy if you are not a Democrat
Thank Democrats for turning the idea of democracy into something loathsome. “Democracy” is well on its way to being the most hated word in the English language. We may soon be forced to opt for socialism just so we don’t have to hear about democracy ever again.
Turning democracy into something we despise is congressional politics at its absolute worst. Everything that happens on Capitol Hill is about protecting democracy, even when it means advocating for fundamentally anti-democratic policies like destroying our national sovereignty with open borders and unchecked illegal immigration.
In Washington’s world of useless, divisive politics even removing a president who has already left office is necessary to protect our democracy. This is not because Nancy Pelosi foams at the mouth every time she thinks about a successful Trump impeachment. It’s because we have to protect our democracy at all costs even if it means a divisive proceeding that can’t possibly go anywhere.
You probably figured out that there is a truckload of hypocrisy hiding behind protecting our democracy. Holding the bad guys accountable is paramount but it’s essential that we do it right. For instance, if you belong to the Democratic Party holding domestic terrorists accountable is important in Washington, D.C. but it doesn’t apply to anything that happens on the West Coast or along our Southern border with Mexico.
It applies to anything and everything that has to do with attacking President Trump even though he’s not the president.
Fortunately we have responsible public officials like Nancy Pelosi to set us straight on how this works. She protected our democracy from Trump in 2017:
Taking action on Russia is not just about addressing the brazen Russian aggression of the past; it is about preventing such attacks on our democracy from ever happening again.69
She’s still on the job in 2021:
In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both. As the days go by, the horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified and so is the immediate need for action.70
Trump isn’t a threat any longer. This is about revenge and our fanatically obsessed House speaker getting what she wants at any cost.
Fortunately we have Joe Biden to set us straight on why protecting our democracy is so important. The president called for “decency and dignity” and a National Day of Unity:
We can protect our democracy by seeing each other not as adversaries but as fellow Americans.71
Did he clear this with Pelosi and his policymakers first, or is it already understood that like “we the people,” “fellow Americans” means fellow Democratic Party Americans?
UPDATE February 13, 2021: freedom to have a government based on virtue and truth
On June 21, 1776 John Adams wrote:
The only foundation of a free Constitution, is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People, in a greater Measure, than they have it now, They may change their Rulers, and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting Liberty.—They will only exchange Tyrants and Tyrannies.72
There is no virtue in our government. There is no truth or integrity. The absolute lack of any semblance of virtue has been on display in the House and Senate for a week. Every American has had a chance to witness the moral bankruptcy that characterizes the words of Washington lawmakers.
Nothing that happened during the proceedings on Capitol Hill last week should inspire anything in the American people except contempt.
Donald Trump’s second impeachment is about tyranny, not virtue. If the numbers shifted to the Democratic side of the aisle private citizen Trump would be impeached whether or not the charges against him have any validity and in the complete absence of constitutional precedent. The most despicable thing about what Democrats are doing is that the complete absence of integrity in their actions doesn’t matter because this is about the power and politics of hate, not truth or virtue.
Biden talks truth, lies, power, and profit
With the inauguration long over we can finally find out how President Biden feels about virtue. He made a bold statement in his inaugural address:
There is truth and there are lies.
Lies told for power and for profit.
And each of us has a duty and responsibility, as citizens, as Americans, and especially as leaders – leaders who have pledged to honor our Constitution and protect our nation — to defend the truth and to defeat the lies.73
Immediately after he uttered these words Biden and his party threw truth and virtue out the window and welcomed the swamp came back to Washington.
Power and profit drive every move and influence every word we hear from Biden and the Democrat Party. Biden’s promise to open schools fell to his union backers. The president refuses to protect our nation and instead opened our borders and returned to the outdated, Obama-era reliance on other nations to guide what actions are moral and good for America.
That’s before we get to his son Hunter and how China’s money and influence factor into this presidency.
We will have to wait to see how that scandal turns out. For now impeaching a president who is no longer in office is the priority.* Biden promised to defeat lies told for power and profit. How does he justify the most powerful members of his party ignoring the truth of their own inciteful statements and the violence that followed last year while they use the same words to ensure that a private citizen with massive public support can never run for public office because Democrats hate and fear him?
Biden has been in office for less than a month. If there is any truth or virtue in his new administration we’re still waiting to see it. By all appearances we have one of John Adams’ tyrants signing executive orders in place of congressional legislation while tyrannical Democrats strip away our freedoms knowing that in the absence of virtue their numbers give them the right to do it.
*It was a priority at 9:30 this morning when I published this update. Now Trump is acquitted and Democrats have to figure out what their next insult to truth and virtue in government will be. Everything they said and did during this second impeachment is on the record. It will follow them around for a very, very long time.
UPDATE February 20, 2021: freedom to be a man or a woman, a boy or a girl
Liberals even manage to make something as simple as gender unmanageable. Politicizing the very simple differences between man and woman has reached the extremes of absurdity. The acronyms keep getting longer and longer, presumably to satiate the left’s increasing demands for inclusivity that are so ridiculous we need complicated new gender categories just to prove how inclusive we are.
Unless you are one of those who likes to talk about things many of us neither care nor wish to hear about you probably don’t see the need for a multi-letter acronym to describe what you are. Man or woman works pretty well. These two acronym-free descriptors served us for many, many centuries.
Then came LGBT. These four letters were manageable, but they weren’t enough so we added another letter. LGBTQ didn’t cover all the gender identity bases either, so we added a “+”. Eventually that wasn’t good enough so we made the acronym even longer and more confusing: LGBTQIA.
I had to look that one up. For the life of me I couldn’t figure it out. It stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual.
I’m not certain want intersex means and not interested enough to look it up, either. The intricacies of one’s gender dysphoria are one’s own business unless your business is politicizing these distinctions to trap unsuspecting Neanderthals like me who aren’t socially and culturally aware enough to be up to date with our sociocultural acronyms or whatever personal eccentricities they represent.
As if LGBTQIA isn’t confusing enough, this morning I learned another new one: BGLTQ. According to Alex Parker at RedState this comes to us courtesy of Harvard University where much bigger brains than mine have time to ponder important things like restroom inclusivity.74
Had enough yet? How about LGBTQQIP2SAA? I’m not going to waste your time explaining what that means. More likely than not another one with a few more letters will take its place by tomorrow.
For now we still have the freedom to describe ourselves with two simple, non-political terms: man and woman. Democrats haven’t figured out how to take that freedom away or charge us with a hate crime for applying incorrect terminology. They should like “man” and “woman” because these words are about biology and biology is SCIENCE. Ridiculous gender acronyms are not science, but those with time on their hands to obsess over the permutations of this sort of thing probably won’t do damage to something that actually matters. For that we should be thankful.
We should not be thankful for politicians’ efforts to use trendy gender identity confusion to intrude on the privacy of school kids who, if memory serves me, are already uncomfortable with things like school restrooms and post-gym class showers.
Jamie Raskin (D-MD) is one of these politicians. In his capacity as chairman of the House Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties he sent a letter to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos last August that charged:
The Department has routinely failed to address complaints of LGBTQ+discrimination, and has refused to even investigate allegations that transgender students have been illegally barred from using bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity.75
Consistent with their gender identity is a bothersome concept to apply to kids in school. I’m not a parent, but if I was I wouldn’t want an allegedly gender-confused boy sitting in the girl’s bathroom stall next to her. This is where socio-cultural gender politics should take a backseat to SCIENCE.
With Democrats in charge gender insanity will infect our schools because the liberal left has the power to spread it. Donald Trump is no longer around to guard the bathroom door.
I am glad I’m not a parent.

People do not understand how the Democrats and the Obama administration are slowly strangling the very freedoms that the Revolution was fought for. The facts are clear when you see the Constitution being trampled on by Obama, and then realize that he could not pass a gun owner background check, which is why he has sealed “ALL” of his records.
If congress were to pass any new legislation on background checking it must include the requirement that “ALL” politicians running for public office must “PASS” those requirements or be disqualified.
As it stands right now, Obama could not ” PASS” a standard FBI check from the details that were written in his book, which is why his certification was challenged. The judges that had cases before them refused to hear the arguments and thusly dismissed those cases. What gutless wonders we have in the justice system including the Supreme Court.

Obama is tearing our nation apart. and he is banking on the ignorant that don’t pay attention. obama has a shady past and i am not convinced that he is a true citizen of the united states. If you vote democrat you are voting to end america as a freedom country. Obama is taking it all away and people are not paying attention. when it’s gone and you are under the control of a dictator you will wish you had paid attention. but this country has been under attack before obama but now it’s speeded up so much it will be a miracle if we can keep it
Bob says
We’ll find out next week how well people are paying attention, won’t we, Sandy? I agree, it’s pretty amazing that no matter how bad things are or how misguided the actions of public officials, they still manage to convince people to support what they do. Watch what happens in the Illinois governor’s race next week. If Pat Quinn wins, it’s a pretty good sign that we are truly lost.
Ed M says
freedom from harm is not a reasonable freedom. Freedom from unjust aggression is reasonable, and the primary reason for government.
Bob Prokop says
Thanks for your remarks, Ed. Interesting how some of what’s happening now at the hands of government could be considered unjust aggression, like the searches they conducted in Rhode Island looking for New Yorkers. It’s difficult to know where to draw the line between government overreach and the public interest, but that was quite a line to cross.
Diane McGuinness says
Obama signed a bill to allow the media to profess false narratives for the peoples ow good HR4310

Joseph Goebbels would be so proud.
Bob Prokop says
I don’t know if the intention was to turn lies into the sole means of communicating with the people to the complete exclusion of the truth, but it has certainly paid off for Democrats and the White House.
John Ille says
Wow, the RWNJ is strong with this one.
Bob Prokop says
I’m listening, John.
