Freedoms Democrats Take Away Are Not Coming Back

January 16, 2013 by Bob Prokop 10 Comments

UPDATE October 6, 2023:

One kind of hate speech is acceptable and it’s a growing threat to your freedom

The history of American hate speech is riddled with religious, ethnic, and racial slurs. Our society and culture are rife with pejorative words and phrases, some currently in vogue and others long deemed unacceptable. Like the old Supreme Court definition of pornography, we know hate when we hear it. The question is whether we do something about it and if so, what?

Some words universally understood to be hateful now were less objectionable and even proper in their time, a product of events, social, and political trends. Often the goal was taking away the freedom of those targeted. The obvious example is emancipated slaves. Years later, these words turn heads and cause fortunes to change for unlucky public figures who forget to turn off their microphones.

Gender hysteria is a testing ground for the left’s new rules for hate speech

The social and cultural hysteria that backs the left’s obsession with limiting and controlling our speech now extends well beyond society’s accepted guardrails. With the rise of radical, woke activism came nonsensical rules for proper speech that include ridiculous edicts for properly referring to each other that pander to anti-gender ideology.

We hear about good people losing their jobs and school children threatened with suspension for not adhering to manufactured, extremist rules of correct speech that create the social crime of “misgendering.” Like the unchallenged, violent social upheaval of the George Floyd riots, this is a politically-motivated, damaging, and dangerous testing ground for activists to find out how hard they can push and how much we will tolerate.

Ironically, the acronym for making America great is now de rigueur hate speech endorsed by the same leftists who would eagerly recommend prison for those of us they accuse of hate for not being schooled in pointless gender pronoun etiquette.

The president and congressional Democrats promote hate speech

There is little, if any condemnation of racist hate speech against conservatives of color from left wingers and even prominent Democrat lawmakers who warn about white supremacist hate and ignore their own equally dangerous attacks. Neither do we hear any denunciation of extreme MAGA slurs, a hate speech favorite promulgated by our president and his party.

Directing hate at one group of Americans because of their skin color, religion, or beliefs is an incredible threat to our republic. Washington’s political left justifies anti-conservative hate speech with transparent propaganda about enemies of the state, domestic terrorism, and threats to America’s survival and yet the president’s massive invasion of America by foreign nationals is condoned and continues largely unchallenged.

History warns us about the consequences of this kind of politically useful intolerance. The left does not care. Neither did radical left-winger Robespierre as heads were taken during the French Revolution.

Labeling conservative Americans MAGA extremists is hate speech

Make no mistake. Labeling conservative Americans MAGA extremist threats is hate speech. The president got the ball rolling with a veiled military threat in the background when he delivered his Continued Battle for the Soul of the Nation address on September 1, 2022:

But there is no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans, and that is a threat to this country.428

He accused conservatives of the worst aspects of his own autocratic acts:

And here, in my view, is what is true: MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people.429

More recently, he raised the tenor of his hate speech:

But there is no question that today’s Republican Party is driven and intimidated by MAGA Republican extremists. Their extreme agenda, if carried out, would fundamentally alter the institutions of American democracy as we know it.

My friends, they’re not hiding their attacks. They’re openly promoting them — attacking the free press as the enemy of the people, attacking the rule of law as an impediment, fomenting voter suppression and election subversion.430

He wants us to know that America can end this attack by conservatives:

And, folks, it is within our power, it’s in our hands — yours and mine — to stop the assault on American democracy.431

That is a troubling thought, considering nothing is out of bounds for the impressionable activist left, including bitter, has-been Hillary Clinton’s suggestion that MAGA Republicans should be deprogrammed.

Biden recently assigned a number to the threat: 25% of Americans. The goal is to use hate to suppress truth and dissent and the freedom of belief in our society. Democrats know they are lying about the nefarious intentions of rabid, Trump-supporting conservatives. They also know that America was much better off before their president took over and many, if not most Americans know it, too. Propaganda in the form of false threats and anti-MAGA hate speech is their solution to a hole they dug for themselves that has no ethical solution.

Why aren’t Republicans speaking out about Democrat hate speech?

Even more troubling than the joint Biden-Democrat Party promulgation of acceptable hate speech is the GOP’s inability or unwillingness to fight back on our behalf.

Republicans were tepid in their support for Trump in 2020. While he fights back against what seems like a judicial assault from every level of government that now includes his family, we’re not hearing outrage from House and Senate Republicans. Why? Are they so spineless and fearful of wearing the dreaded MAGA label that they would prefer to see Trump destroyed so Democrats can use what they have learned about weaponizing America’s judicial system to take out the next conservative candidate?

The president and congressional Democrats have been enormously successful at normalizing hate speech against Republicans and conservatives in general. While bitter Hillary’s relevance is minimal at best, we can’t dismiss her deprogramming remark in a social climate that selects which groups should be divested at the very least of their freedom of speech to protect against false threats to a nation Democrats will stop at nothing to control.

People do not understand how the Democrats and the Obama administration are slowly strangling the very freedoms that the Revolution was fought for. The facts are clear when you see the Constitution being trampled on by Obama, and then realize that he could not pass a gun owner background check, which is why he has sealed “ALL” of his records.
If congress were to pass any new legislation on background checking it must include the requirement that “ALL” politicians running for public office must “PASS” those requirements or be disqualified.
As it stands right now, Obama could not ” PASS” a standard FBI check from the details that were written in his book, which is why his certification was challenged. The judges that had cases before them refused to hear the arguments and thusly dismissed those cases. What gutless wonders we have in the justice system including the Supreme Court.

Obama is tearing our nation apart. and he is banking on the ignorant that don’t pay attention. obama has a shady past and i am not convinced that he is a true citizen of the united states. If you vote democrat you are voting to end america as a freedom country. Obama is taking it all away and people are not paying attention. when it’s gone and you are under the control of a dictator you will wish you had paid attention. but this country has been under attack before obama but now it’s speeded up so much it will be a miracle if we can keep it

We’ll find out next week how well people are paying attention, won’t we, Sandy? I agree, it’s pretty amazing that no matter how bad things are or how misguided the actions of public officials, they still manage to convince people to support what they do. Watch what happens in the Illinois governor’s race next week. If Pat Quinn wins, it’s a pretty good sign that we are truly lost.

freedom from harm is not a reasonable freedom. Freedom from unjust aggression is reasonable, and the primary reason for government.

Thanks for your remarks, Ed. Interesting how some of what’s happening now at the hands of government could be considered unjust aggression, like the searches they conducted in Rhode Island looking for New Yorkers. It’s difficult to know where to draw the line between government overreach and the public interest, but that was quite a line to cross.

I don’t know if the intention was to turn lies into the sole means of communicating with the people to the complete exclusion of the truth, but it has certainly paid off for Democrats and the White House.
