UPDATE September 11, 2022:
Democrats take away their own freedom and they’re having a hard time dealing with it.
There is a famous saying about payback I’m not going to repeat for reasons that will be obvious in just a moment. For now, it suffices to says that it’s a lot harder to live up to your values than to tell voters you have them.
Just once it would be refreshing to see Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot step in front of a camera and not be angry, especially when she’s angry about something that she and the Democrats who run Illinois with an iron fist promote. Those of us who live in the Chicago area and don’t vote for Democrats are enjoying a rare opportunity to watch what happens when a liberal big city mayor is forced to stand up for what she claims to believe in.
Lightfoot is a picture-perfect example of the difference between telling voters you have values and actually having values that you live up to when you win political office. It’s possible that she didn’t fully understand the implications of sanctuary city status when she decided to run for mayor, but since there were plenty of illegals in the Windy City long before Joe Biden broke our border and Lightfoot is hardly unacquainted with what Democrats have done to the city, this seems unlikely.
She also knew that Chicago, like many Democrat-controlled cities, is dangerous and violent. That particular problem hasn’t improved on her watch. The no cash bail law that Illinois’ Democrat Party legislature and Governor JB Pritzker timed to take effect just after the 2022 gubernatorial election is not going to improve that situation. Neither will attacking Republicans by blaming AR-15s for crimes committed with handguns or trying to connect mass shooting incidents with the day-to-day street crime that takes innocent lives each and every day.
There is freedom in having values you respect and believe in. They provide a roadmap for your actions that’s far easier to live up to than endorsing values that bite you in the backside when the time comes to pay up and show what you really stand for. This is quite the problem for Democrats facing a midterm election that could be cataclysmic for their party. Remembers, these are the same politicians who stood for defunding the police and eliminating cash bail and even pushed the ridiculous “justice-involved individual” moniker so being a criminal doesn’t seem quite so offensive. Now President Biden is for funding the police because Democrat voters don’t like violent crime any more than Republican voters.
This is what sanctuary city really means.
It was only a matter of time before Biden’s cartel-friendly, open border human trafficking and fentanyl smuggling program caught up with his party. Thanks to Greg Abbott we’re seeing what sanctuary city really means. It means a sanctuary for Democrats who promise values for votes.
Democrat Party politics is rife with examples of how left-wing politicians box themselves in when they appeal to far-left dimwits with no real-world experience who insist that eliminating fossil fuels right here and now or opening our jails to the streets are sound policies that make America better.
Crime, too-expensive energy, and other trappings of Democrat Party government also restrict the freedom of the people who put these politicians in office. During the worst of the COVID-19 lockdowns we discovered that many of these elected officials have completely different ideas about the freedoms the people deserve and the freedoms they deserve. We will never have a better example than Gavin Newsom’s French Laundry outing. His time would have been better spent hunkering down to figure out how to keep the lights and air conditioning on when his Green New Deal progressive energy policies made these everyday conveniences unreliable.
Today is the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. It’s also nearly two months to the day since President Biden shamed us with his visit Saudi Arabia with America’s hand out because he raised our prices and restricted our freedom by pandering to climate Armageddon dimwits. Now his party faces an unhappy electorate because he made the gigantic mistake of trading values he can’t live up to for votes. Meanwhile, I implore Governor Abbott to keep the buses coming. I live in a state that’s been all but destroyed by Democrats, but like the deliveries of Biden’s illegals, Lori Lightfoot’s angry visage filling my TV screen delivers some small measure of satisfaction.

Freedom is what Democrats allow you to do.
Freedom is at the top of the November 8 ballot. The issue is abortion. Democrats want you to believe that freedom means taking away your right to decide about the legality of this procedure in your state. When the decision went back to the voters, they were furious because Democrats hate the thought of democracy and the freedom it grants outside of their sphere of control.
No matter which side of the abortion issue you stand on, the Democrat Party’s stance on what freedom means is outrageously self-serving and hypocritical. Not only are Democrats determined to take away your freedom to decide, they worked overtime after Dobbs to denounce and undermine the Supreme Court, which protects us from their authoritarian overreaches.
Our government is of the people, by the people. For the people comes dead last. Our elected representatives are supposed to work for us, not dictate how we live our lives.
Allowing we, the people to decide an issue is how our democracy is supposed to work. This is why we have elections. Democrats and Nancy Pelosi in particular talk about how their actions are “For the People,” which means we get what they decide to give us. Freedom is irrelevant. This is about control.
The president’s utter lack of respect for the Supreme Court because justices won’t do his bidding is characteristic of feckless Joe’s increasingly autocratic leanings. In what is most certainly an unintended moment of clarity, he spoke the truth about what he calls an “extreme decision:”
The Court practically dared the women in this country to go to the ballot box and restore the right to choose that the Court had just ripped away after 50 years. 268
Dobbs did exactly that. It gave women the right to use their vote to decide how their state will navigate this issue. Democrats don’t believe in the sanctity of the vote any more than they believe in the sanctity of the Supreme Court. They want you to believe that extremist, semi-fascist MAGA Republicans control our SCOTUS justices and that returning a decision to voters takes away our freedom.
Ironically, when we get the freedom to decide with our vote the ballot box isn’t worth protecting. Democrats’ historically racist view of the nation exemplified by Biden’s vote for me or “you ain’t black” comment informs them that black and brown voters lack the skills and education to get driver’s licenses or state IDs. This isn’t true, of course, but it gives them an excuse to take away your freedom to decide by imposing policies that open the door to vote fraud.
While Dobbs precipitated the greatest attack on our freedom by Democrats in many years, we can’t allow it to shroud the other assaults on our liberties the party has enforced because they have the raw political power to do whatever they want.
After Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) rolled out the GOP’s Commitment to America yesterday, Pelosi angrily responded:
Today’s rollout is the latest evidence of House Republicans’ whole-hearted Commitment to MAGA: going all-in on an extremist agenda designed to greatly diminish Americans’ health, freedom and security.269
It’s stupefying to realize how our nation that claims to value liberty and the rule of law has deteriorated because of Democrat Party attacks on our freedom. Even a right as simple as living in a safe neighborhood no longer exists for many Americans. Crime is rampant in communities terrorized by liberal, catch and release DAs. Democrats lured so many foreign nationals over Biden’s open border that some communities are permanently changed and residents have no way of knowing whether terrorists, child sex offenders, or murderers and rapists are being relocated next door. What we do know is that hordes of invading illegals have to live somewhere, and Democrats don’t care where as long as it isn’t anywhere near themselves or their liberal elite donors whose freedom and security must be protected at all costs.
Whether it’s draconian COVID restrictions, assaults on Second Amendment rights while violent criminals go free, green energy mandates like deciding what kind of car you’re permitted to buy, teaching perversion and grooming children in the schools we fund, keeping parents away from the decision to mutilate their children’s bodies, or denying voters a right to decide their state’s laws on an issue like abortion so Democrats can take control, the Democrat Party has abused its power by dictating what freedoms we are allowed to enjoy.
Abortion is the rabbit patch for the 2022 midterms. Democrats want you to think this is the only issue on the ballot and that it’s about restoring your freedom. The opposite is true. The party has a vast array of attacks on our liberties to answer for. Democrats will do whatever they can to make sure you don’t see the truth about their withering assault on our freedoms and every aspect of how we live our day to day lives.

Freedom from hunger starts with freedom from the Biden economy.
The White House is issuing more announcements than we can keep track of. Suddenly, we are awash in plans to make America better after President Biden and the Democrat Party made our country infinitely worse. Today’s release about a new strategy to tackle hunger was a real stunner even by administration standards and an exercise in denial White House communications staff deserve hilarity credit for, if nothing else.
Democrat presidents have waged countless wars on hunger. It was only a matter of time before the Biden White House came up with one to call its own. The problem is a little different this time, though. Our aloof, tone deaf, denial-obsessed White House couldn’t even keep America’s babies supplied with formula until a very foreseeable supply issue became a national emergency. Now, with food prices soaring because of Biden economy inflation and a reckless student loan bailout taking center stage it’s time to give lip service to hunger.
The Biden administration wants to walk a trail blazed by far better Democrats like JFK who actually seemed to care about hunger instead of tacking it on to a laundry list of pre-midterm spending proposals bred more from desperation than concern.
The goal is to increase physical activity and healthy eating by 2030, when Biden will be gone from the White House and hopefully America will be on the mend. This is a self-serving, meaningless benchmark that conveniently denies the damage this administration has done to practically every sector of our economy and every American who is not wealthy:
The Biden-Harris Administration envisions an America where no one wonders whether they will have enough money to put food on the table, where the healthy food choice is the easier choice, and where everyone has the same opportunity to be physically active.270
The plan calls for “transformative programs, policies, and system changes.”271 This should strike fear in our hearts. Remember, Karine Jean-Pierre used the word “transition” to describe what the president did to our economy.
The White House wants to improve “food access and affordability.”272 This should have been a concern before Democrats pushed inflation through the roof and the White House began inflicting Green New Deal energy policies on working families.
Like the price of almost everything we need to survive, the price of groceries has made putting bread on the table much more difficult. In July alone, food prices skyrocketed by 13.1%. The price of milk went up 15.6% and fruits and vegetables – the bedrock of any sound nutrition program – rose 8.2%.273
We’re never going to get a mea culpa from Biden. Instead, he’s proposing more government regulation to further clamp down on the freedom of food producers to do their jobs and feed Americans:
Empowering all consumers to make and have access to healthy choices, including by proposing to develop a front-of-package labeling scheme for food packages; proposing to update the nutrition criteria for the “healthy” claim on food packages; expanding incentives for fruits and vegetables in SNAP; facilitating sodium reduction in the food supply by issuing longer-term, voluntary sodium targets for industry; and assessing additional steps to reduce added sugar consumption, including potential voluntary targets;274
Jargon won’t feed working families forced to put gas in their tanks instead of meat on their tables:
Enhancing nutrition and food security research, including by bolstering funding to improve metrics, data collection, and research to inform nutrition and food security policy, particularly on issues of equity and access; and implementing a vision for advancing nutrition science.275
Investing in food security research sounds a lot like investigating the root causes of migration. It’s a time waster that circumvents the truth: creating an economy that’s too expensive for working and middle-class Americans strips away freedom from want. A pre-midterm stunt that ignores how much the Biden administration and Democrats have restricted our freedoms by inflicting unbelievable damage on the sound economy they inherited would be hilarious if real people were not being hurt.
With a little luck, we might be able to credit the White House with its goal to get Americans to exercise. If we can’t afford gas and unreliable green power won’t let us charge our expensive electric cars, our legs are all we will have left to get to work and the grocery store. Bicycles, anyone?

People do not understand how the Democrats and the Obama administration are slowly strangling the very freedoms that the Revolution was fought for. The facts are clear when you see the Constitution being trampled on by Obama, and then realize that he could not pass a gun owner background check, which is why he has sealed “ALL” of his records.
If congress were to pass any new legislation on background checking it must include the requirement that “ALL” politicians running for public office must “PASS” those requirements or be disqualified.
As it stands right now, Obama could not ” PASS” a standard FBI check from the details that were written in his book, which is why his certification was challenged. The judges that had cases before them refused to hear the arguments and thusly dismissed those cases. What gutless wonders we have in the justice system including the Supreme Court.
Obama is tearing our nation apart. and he is banking on the ignorant that don’t pay attention. obama has a shady past and i am not convinced that he is a true citizen of the united states. If you vote democrat you are voting to end america as a freedom country. Obama is taking it all away and people are not paying attention. when it’s gone and you are under the control of a dictator you will wish you had paid attention. but this country has been under attack before obama but now it’s speeded up so much it will be a miracle if we can keep it
We’ll find out next week how well people are paying attention, won’t we, Sandy? I agree, it’s pretty amazing that no matter how bad things are or how misguided the actions of public officials, they still manage to convince people to support what they do. Watch what happens in the Illinois governor’s race next week. If Pat Quinn wins, it’s a pretty good sign that we are truly lost.
freedom from harm is not a reasonable freedom. Freedom from unjust aggression is reasonable, and the primary reason for government.
Thanks for your remarks, Ed. Interesting how some of what’s happening now at the hands of government could be considered unjust aggression, like the searches they conducted in Rhode Island looking for New Yorkers. It’s difficult to know where to draw the line between government overreach and the public interest, but that was quite a line to cross.
