Nuke Threat Less Risky Than the Right to Vote

November 7, 2025 by Bob Prokop Leave a Comment

I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was old enough to understand what was happening and knew it had something to do with my school’s duck and cover drills (yes, they really were a thing). My parents reacted to the nuke threat by constructing a bomb shelter in our backyard. Over half a century later that concrete and rebar-reinforced mound remains as a stalwart testament to a time when we thought surviving a nuclear holocaust was not only possible, but something we wanted.

After kissing the Cold War nuke threat goodbye during the Reagan-Gorbachev years we promptly welcomed it back. The weak-kneed Biden administration breathed new life into the threat of Armageddon. Now Trump is talking nuclear testing because our adversaries no longer deem the mutually assured destruction achieved long ago to be destructive enough.

Trinity nuclear test
Trinity test1

While the president counters Xi and Putin with America’s thermonuclear saber, Democrats indulge their flaccid, make-nice appeasement fantasies and pretend Russia and China are subservient to international law:

Donald Trump has put his own ego and authoritarian ambitions above the health and safety of Nevadans,” said Congresswoman [Dina] Titus. “His announcement to resume nuclear testing in the United States goes against the arms control and nonproliferation treaties that the U.S. has spearheaded since the end of the Cold War, and will trigger new tests by Russia and China, reigniting an international arms race.2

Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) fears our adversaries might challenge us:

A Trump atomics plan would provoke Russia and China to resume nuclear testing, and China in particular has much more to gain from this than does the United States. This is a reckless directive from Trump that will only make the country and the world less safe and lead to a terrible new nuclear arms race.3

When you already have the capacity for global extinction at the push of a button, does more “terrible” matter?

Nuke threat fantasy vs. Tuesday election facts

Refusing to participate in an arms race that is well underway won’t stop escalation. It guarantees that America will lose leverage, which aligns with other progressive priorities that will destroy us and which many voters endorsed in Tuesday’s elections.

Is mutually assured destruction a threat from within or without?

Good question. The eighty years since the Trinity test argue that the mutually assured destruction deterrent is still so overwhelming that a thermonuclear exchange will never happen. Despite the insanity of his Ukraine war and the stunning losses incurred by Russia, Putin has yet to deploy his tactical battleground nukes despite threats that he stands ready if pushed far enough.

Weak, docile and dumb is no way to vote

The average American can’t do much to impact global politics, but we can put an end to the national suicide that has nothing to do with Russia, China, North Korea, or the nuke threat they represent.

Our founders handed us the freedom to control our destiny. It’s called the right to vote. Like the threat of nuclear extinction, this fundamental responsibility of citizenship will wipe our country from history if we mutually agree to install doomsday radical progressivism in our seats of government.

Nuclear war is a fantasy that may never come to pass. The election of Zohran Mamdani in New York is very real. So is the use of political violence as a radical Democrat Party policy tool, protecting violent criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, endorsing uncontrolled illegal immigration, and the decisions made by weak, docile citizens begging to be owned by an intolerant, anti-free speech government instead of taking responsibility for their lives.

In the wrong hands, the right to vote is a constitutional path to America’s destruction

The right to vote brought us Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, JB Pritzker, Brandon Johnson, Gavin Newsom, Michelle Wu, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and now Zohran Mamdani, to name a few. Our choices range from incompetent to destructive to flagrantly anti-American.

While fretting over threats from a psychopath like Kim Jong-Un and imperialists like Valdimir Putin and Xi Jinping, we should ask ourselves what we demand for ourselves and our country. Nukes aren’t nearly the threat to our future that the right to vote can be when we make bad decisions like choosing Democrat Jay Jones as Virginia Attorney General despite widespread news reports of his texts advocating murderous political violence.

The destruction of America doesn’t require a nuclear holocaust. Xi, Putin, and Kim Jong-Un won’t need to be involved. The right to vote will render the idea of America extinct as surely as New Yorkers opted for neo-Marxism, with the certainty that Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson will protect violent criminal illegals from law enforcement at any cost, and the shocking decision by America’s left to endorse genocidal, pro-terrorist anti-Semitism.

Progressives pander to the weak, lazy, uninformed, and dependent. The Democrat Party’s government shutdown and the outcry over SNAP benefits highlight just how much responsibility Americans have ceded to their Nanny State. We are overweight and obese, addicted, and look to our government to save us. Trump’s recent proposal to make weight loss drugs more affordable and his attacks on drug boats in the Caribbean underscore just how little accountability we accept for the direction of our lives.

Too many Americans are willing to eschew the values that made America great in favor of socialist and now communist promises of a protected, moderated existence from an all-controlling government to worship in place of Marx’s “opium of the masses.”

The America that voted for Mamdani is not the America created by the founders, the America that defeated the Axis in World War II, or the America envisioned by the slogan so hated by progressives, “Make America Great Again.” Instead, voters chose a “globalize the intifada” neo-Marxist.

Judging by the results of Tuesday’s contests, making America great is not what Americans are asking for. We would do well to remember Thomas Paine’s warning that “Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered …” Midterms are coming and radical progressive tyranny is what our weak, naive, dependent citizens are poised to demand with their right to vote.
