Day Without Heroes? Ordinary People Never Had a Chance

March 9, 2017 by Bob Prokop 2 Comments

Like many ordinary people there is nothing different or special about me. I’m white. My parents aren’t immigrants. Neither am I. The gender I was born with is the one I’ll stick to. I’m straight. My job does not make me rich but I don’t make minimum wage, either. I work and pay taxes. Since my home is in Illinois that means lots of taxes that are never enough. None of this makes me special, but can being ordinary make you a hero? It might if more people noticed what ordinary Americans do. We might even have A Day Without Heroes.

Liberal stupidity marginalizes special people

It is absolutely incredible that people buy into the idea of “A Day Without.” Whether we are talking a day without women, immigrants, or whatever comes next, this is a one-trick pony. The idea will be the same every time: economic power means the strength to do harm. Boycotts, strikes, and walking off the job shows you are special. The funny thing is, when the government does the same thing to America’s special people and they feel like they are being singled out they screech to the heavens about fairness and equality.

There is an endless supply of people who think they are special and will no doubt qualify for Day Without honors. Minimum wage workers and teachers are good bets, though with teachers it would be double-dipping. Many have the option to strike when they don’t feel appreciated. Some got the day off yesterday without a strike when they shut down their unlucky school districts for A Day Without Women.

Hotel workers, caregivers, taxi drivers, and all manner of people who let themselves be convinced they aren’t getting a fair shake will no doubt get their own special Day Without.

If they don’t, they can always claim discrimination.

This is liberal stupidity at its most flagrant and foul. When people try to prove they make a difference they marginalize themselves. Immigrants did it a few weeks ago. Women did the same thing yesterday. Why? Is it hatred for their employers for never doing enough or the thoughtless politics of anarchy that makes people think that doing harm proves you are not weak?

A Day Without Heroes is never going to happen

Some types of ordinary people don’t need their own special day without.

There will never be a day without heroes. People serving in the military can’t walk off the job. Police and firefighters may get killed in the line of duty, but they aren’t going to stay home to prove they keep us safe. They won’t make a public display of how much they should be appreciated. They don’t have to, though as badly as the police were demonized in the fading days of Obama’s Justice Department we should give them a pass if they get the urge.

When people have to show us they matter, they prove that they don’t.

Your average, ordinary people who go to work, pay their taxes, and would never think of flipping off their employer to prove they have power will never get their Day Without. Even if we did, no one would show up for the rally. We are too important. We have work to do.

Thanks, Tim. It’s sad that so many have been duped into believing that forcing people to notice you gains respect.
