I drove past a sign on a church yesterday that asked us to “Pray for our Nation.” Assuming this was a reference to the new president, my knee-jerk reaction was anger. It didn’t occur to me until later that the sign might not have had anything to do with the new liberal left war on America. That’s a sad testament to how fractured our nation is. We hoped relations between left and right would improve after the country finally made its decision. Instead, they got worse.
The angry liberal left still can’t comprehend what happened. They were right about everything. They picked a candidate who couldn’t be beat. All they had to do was keep Obama’s momentum going and the country was theirs once again, no worries.
Weeks later we are faced with frustration, anger, and hate that are turning into a war.
Electoral hypocrisy
The liberal left warned us that Trump would reject the election results. Now there are stories of electors being harassed.1 Cities have been disrupted by protests. A video is making the rounds of a man beaten in Chicago because his attackers assumed he voted for Trump. If we are to believe news reports plans to protest the inauguration are going full bore.
Waging a war on America because our constitutionally-elected president doesn’t suit liberal left ideals attacks the very best thing about this country: our people. Hillary Clinton’s reference to Trump supporters being deplorable still resonates through a party following determined to blame others for anger and hate that is not coming from the right, but from them.
Call it arrogance, narrow-mindedness, or the idealistic refusal to face reality. We are at war with the left. Both sides should be able to agree on that.
Liberal propaganda won’t die
Three days before liberal hopes were dashed Obama gave an address during which he said:
And thanks to the efforts of so many of you, we did it. Today, 20 million more American adults know the financial security of health insurance.2
He didn’t mention that Americans have to risk their financial security to buy that insurance at rising rates or how much taxpayers spend to subsidize coverage. That’s how liberal left propaganda works. It swaps idealism for facts and ignores the consequences.
Troubled that Trump appointments will only address the wants of the “Far Right,”3 House Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra kept the dialogue alive:
Both men [Jeff Sessions and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn] have expressed extreme views and a troubling tendency toward intolerance. That’s the last thing Americans want or need in their top law enforcement officer or the person responsible for keeping America safe and in steady hands.4
Meanwhile, extremist marchers parade in the streets. The Electoral College’s future is up for grabs. Vice President-elect Mike Pence just found out he can’t enjoy a stage production without being singled out for his politics.5
The liberal left would never call these things intolerance, but we know it when we see it.
Liberal left war creates hate crimes?
The most threatening aspect of the new intolerance of the left is how Americans are suddenly guilty of a hate crime trend because they refused to agree with Democrats. Minnesota’s Keith Ellison, considered a possible for chairing the DNC, recently charged:
The President-elect’s supporters have drawn swastikas on schools and churches, encouraged political opponents to commit suicide, threatened Muslim-Americans with violence, and committing other hate crimes.6
That’s a pretty broad statement, but accusing the right of hate crimes seems to be the only ploy this losing party has left.
A letter to Trump being circulated through the Democratic House had received 120 signatures when Washington D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton issued the following remarks that imply the president-elect’s approval of hate:
Since the election there have been a number of incidents across the country in which minorities, including Muslim Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Jewish Americans, have been the targets of violence, harassment and intimidation. Mr. Bannon’s appointment sends the wrong message to people who have engaged in those types of activities, indicating that they will not only be tolerated, but endorsed by your Administration.7
We are faced with this evolving dialogue about hateful right wing behavior based on anecdotal incidents that the media, activists, and Democratic officials are spinning into a movement.
Would we be faced with the same trend in hate crimes if Clinton had won? The numbers say yes.
Hate crimes: Obama gets a pass
New FBI hate crime statistics for 2015 reported 5,818 incidents involving race, religion, gender, or other characteristics.8 Despite Loretta Lynch’s reference to a 6% increase in these numbers as “alarming trends,”9 the FBI’s figures show that this is less than in 2010, 2011, 2013, and close to 2012’s 5,796 incidents.10,11,12,13 2014 showed a dip in hate crimes, but we never heard Obama being blamed by his minions for the higher numbers earlier in his administration.
Hate propaganda is the newest weapon in the liberal left arsenal. That means accusing the right of crimes, disrupting city streets, and spewing anti-Republican invective.
We should give our departing president and his lackeys credit. They have pushed the far left agenda to such an extreme that the country may finally be divided beyond repair. For the moment they have managed to destroy the very best thing about us.
