Taking Care of People is Why Democrats Rob Us

Last update October 15, 2016Leave a Comment

Before Trump accusers came out of the media woodwork, offensive and demeaning talk inspired Democrats to make vulgarity the focal point of why they should own the White House. There are all types of vulgarity. Democrats aren’t very good at recognizing it when it comes from one of their own, including the president when he recently talked about taking care of people:

And it [assistance during North Carolina floods] is a reminder of what we do here in America, which is we have to look out for one another no matter what. When it comes to making sure that people are safe and cared for, there are no politics. Everybody has to look out for one another.1

If you want to hear obscenity, it’s hard to top that.

Granted, this was during a speech at a party rally where we expect self-congratulations from the tax and spenders. The fact is that liberal America isn’t nearly as good at taking care of people as it thinks. It isn’t because we don’t spend enough. We try to do good things.

So what’s the problem?

We take care of people by robbing them blind.

A county takes care of people by robbing the poor

Soda taxes are the new sin taxes in Cook County, Illinois because the levies on everything else have already been raised. The Chicago Tribune discussed [link expired] the county’s effort to pass a soda tax2 that will whack lower income residents hard. The reason? The county is run by Democrats who spend too much on big government.

The good news for the county and Chicago is that they are run by geniuses who convince the public that financial problems are not the fault of bureaucracy but are caused by all the people we need to take care of.

They also believe that there is an endless supply of money. The problem is how to collect more by coming up with a believable explanation as to why taxpayers already owe so much.

Raising taxes on people with means is a hard thing to do. Robbing the poor with soda taxes, cigarette taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, and all the other trappings of the liberal lie of government looking out for its neediest subjects is a lot easier.

The soda tax is just an example that hasn’t even been passed yet. It will be, just like the newest sales tax hike. There is no income exemption for these kinds of taxes, but at least Democrats can fall back on equality. They rob everyone equally, even those they claim to protect.

When it comes to robbing people there is a much bigger thief that needs to be stopped. Washington does its dirty work on a massive scale and has turned taking care of people by robbing them into an art form. It has done such a good PR job that voters are ready to put another tax and spender in the White House.

Do Democratic health insurance premiums make you feel cared for?

I just got the news that my health insurance premiums are going up 42%. The news was about the same at last year’s renewal. Fortunately, I knew it was going to happen. It’s not as if the government hasn’t warned us:

“Estimates show that increases in 2017 could be double what we see this year and, in several states, these costs could spike by more than 50% with no end in sight.3

At least I got to keep my doctor, even though I don’t go to the doctor very much. I stay healthy. My inflated premiums don’t build up a cash value like life insurance. They go to covering everyone who doesn’t have money.

There are other ways we all pay, from the poorest Chicagoan to the wealthiest Manhattanite. Give the left credit. They really are all about equality. We all get robbed equally.

Liberal vulgarity: hurting people is better than helping

There are other, equally brutal ways to not take care of people than using government to force their health insurance rates to be unaffordable. We can force citizens to pay to educate illegals. State and local governments can pass mandates that require us to pay for excessive salaries, pensions, and benefits for public workers. Unions can be empowered to force us to spend too much for education, infrastructure, first responders, and other services taxpayers have already funded.

We can even waste money outright because as any good Democrat knows, dollars grow on the taxpayer tree and the money pit is filled with cash. The quandary for liberal politicians isn’t having too little cash, it’s how to get their hands on more of what they aren’t entitled to.

And the best way to take care of people is?

Veterans Affairs has had some issues with how it is taking care of people. During the height of the controversy Pennsylvania Congressman Mike Kelly suggested a better way with a bill to hold the VA accountable:

This bill is a commonsense way of taking care of people who don’t perform at a level that’s expected. The taxpayers, the citizens of this country, should expect nothing less. And to be constantly told that ‘you can’t touch these folks,’ even if they perform so badly…

Instead of doing that, we give them a bonus. That doesn’t make sense.4

Taking care of people who hurt people and ruin the nation is not what we do. Instead, we reward them with lucrative jobs and political office.

Accountability is not what Democrats have in mind. It certainly isn’t what Hillary Clinton wants, but she knows Americans can be naïve and gullible. Some actually believe that Democrats will take care of them. They will, but we may have to rethink what “taking care of us” means.
