Humanity should not have been shocked by the attacks in Paris. There was nothing outrageous about what happened, even though the one-time leader of the free world chose to cast it that way.1 When America’s leadership decided long ago to publicly deny the direction Islam was so obviously taking, what did that portend for the civilized world?
Politics has a way of pushing ideology to the extremes of stupidity. That’s what has happened with the White House’s growing obsession with inflicting fringe liberal values on our society. What was once a necessary counterpoint to the dialogue between left and right has become absurd and even dangerous.
What should we make of a world that finds unity in a plane crash but sits back and lets a broken religion hold people in terror? We have a stunning ability to come together and set posturing and differences aside when tragedy strikes.
