When communicating with dolts and dullards short, simple slogans are great tools. This must be how Obama propaganda savants view us, as half-bright dupes for overused phrases like “fair shot,” “fair share,” “playing by the rules,” and the ubiquitous “inextricably linked” (see: Obama Gives His Chosen a Slogan).
“Fairness” and “playing by the rules” are special favorites because they imply we are being cheated by the enemies of the people. When the Obama propaganda squad targets its villains, the dreaded “playing by the rules” label is applied just as quickly as “broken” is slapped on legislation our president finds offensive.
America is not finished yet, though by 2016 our country might be on its death bed. Fortunately, we know we can trust White House assurances that we will survive if we embrace fairness and playing by the rules:
Or we can build a nation where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules. At stake right now are not Democratic or Republican values, but American values – and for the sake of our future, we have to reclaim them.¹
How should we go about doling out fairness and making sure our enemies do the right thing?
Everyone knows we need to stick it to the wealthy. The president hasn’t been shy about it. White House innuendo insinuates that someone isn’t doing their part to keep this boat afloat:
A tax code that makes sure everybody pays their fair share. And laws that make sure everybody follows the rules. That’s what will transform our economy. That’s what will grow our middle class again.²
Go after crooked employers who hurt illegal immigrants by not playing by the rules.
Employers aren’t doing their part, either. Obama propaganda tells us we need an employment verification system not to keep illegals out, but to keep employers on the straight and narrow:
Unscrupulous businesses have to be held accountable, and cannot continue to exploit undocumented workers, undermining American workers and those businesses who want to play by the rules.³
Rescue the middle class by forcing Wall Street to follow Obama’s rules.
Like most Obama propaganda, the Wall Street reform campaign focused on the welfare of the middle class:
That’s what Wall Street reform is all about – looking out for working families and making sure that everyone is playing by the same rules.4
Playing by the rules can cut both ways. We don’t consider those families who took out mortgages they knew they couldn’t afford because opportunity beckoned, and who now expect a little help with their houses during the next four years.
Save sick Americans by making sure insurance companies are playing by the rules.
So much coercion and so little time! Without Obamacare to force insurers to play by yet another set of White House rules, sickness means destitution:
The new law forces insurance companies to play by the rules, prohibiting them from dropping your coverage if you get sick, billing you into bankruptcy because of a lifetime limit, or, soon, discriminating against anyone with a pre-existing condition.5
Help illegal immigrants play by the rules. Fix America’s immigration system.
The most insulting Obama propaganda flourish of all answers the question “How Do You Fix a Broken Immigration System so Everyone Plays By the Rules?”6
Establish a simple and efficient legal immigration system that rewards anyone willing to work hard and play by the rules.7
By now, even dim-witted conservatives like us have figured out what this means. “Rewards” means amnesty and “play by the rules” means being an illegal immigrant.
How does Barack Obama feel about playing by the rules?
He invokes his “We Can’t Wait” strategy when Congress won’t play with the White House and he decides to do things his way.
He tried to give unions a big break on the health care bill’s Cadillac tax.
He involved us in military operations in Libya without bothering Congress.
He passed deferred action for illegal immigrants all by himself.
He made recess appointments while the Senate was out playing.
He presided over Homeland Security’s prosecutorial discretion scheme, approving backdoor amnesty without Congress’s consent.
He watched over the Justice Department while it sued states for everything from voter ID laws to verifying citizenship status for those partaking in free public education, disregarding any notion of fairness to state taxpayers.
AND BEST OF ALL:
He signed off on the fiscal cliff deal that raised taxes on the middle class, knowing that those he claims deserve to be taxed at higher rates will max out their FICA obligations while middle class workers pay, and pay, and pay.
