How Liberal Values Encourage Terror

Last update February 9, 2015Leave a Comment

Politics has a way of pushing ideology to the extremes of stupidity. That’s what has happened with the White House’s growing obsession with inflicting fringe liberal values on our society. What was once a necessary counterpoint to the dialogue between left and right has become absurd and even dangerous. Can we permit corrupted liberal values to continue to influence America’s security?

Do liberal values encourage terror?

There has been more than a little uproar over the president’s insistence on avoiding any reference that would connect the Muslim faith and terror, evidenced by his refusal to equate ISIL with Islam. Despite her role in the Benghazi PR foul-up, Susan Rice still plays a major role in administration policy as Obama’s National Security Advisor. In remarks last week she described the White House’s security strategy while tossing in one of the Democratic Party’s favorite liberal causes:

We have renewed our core alliances, while also building partnerships with emerging powers and neglected regions. We are committed to fighting terrorism and stopping the spread of nuclear weapons, even as we rally the world to meet the threats of tomorrow—malicious cyber actors and deadly pandemics; climate change and competition in space.1

Is fighting climate change the same as fighting ISIS? While the failure of U.S. policy at home and abroad demands resolution, the fact that little has been done to stop the spread of nuclear weapons and terrorism will be lost on liberal policymakers more concerned with their views than how those views relate to real world events. What has this endorsement of liberal values at the expense of policy meant for the nation? When it comes to fighting terror, here are five ways it hurts us.

1. Liberal values opened our doors

USCIS, the agency charged with implementing the president’s newest immigration order, warns about the risks of identity fraud and terrorism:

These types of fraud pose a severe threat to national security and public safety because they create a vulnerability that may enable terrorists, other criminals and illegal aliens to gain entry to and remain in the United States.2

Liberal values have forced us to accept millions of illegal immigrants who have adopted false identities. When USCIS warns about terrorism while our commander in chief seeks to grant amnesty to millions, we should ask why Republicans let smart, secure immigration enforcement fall to foolhardy idealism.

2. Liberal values demand we minimize threats

In a country where scrutiny based on ethnicity is forbidden because of civil rights concerns and religious freedom replaces common sense (see: Freedom of Religion Protects Evil Spread by Islam), we are at risk when the greatest terror threat comes from a minority. Our National Security Advisor minimized the risk when she warned of the dangers of alarmism, ignoring the fact that America’s role as a world leader is fading because of Obama’s disastrous leadership:

We can’t afford to be buffeted by alarmism and an instantaneous news cycle. We must continue to do the hard work of leading a complex and rapidly evolving world, of seizing opportunities, and of winning the future for our children.3

Was Rice talking about security, or was she campaigning for her party?

3. Liberal Democrats threaten alliances we can never violate

We should hang our heads in shame over the developing flap surrounding Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit. White House policy hung Israel out to dry (see: Leadership Crisis, Government Debt Cripple U.S. Influence). Now Democrats are turning their backs on one of our most faithful allies instead of embracing the chance to further the anti-terror dialogue and find a way to fix Obama’s failed efforts to appease Iran.

4. Terror’s chosen religion has become a political weapon

How did a corrupted religion like Islam turn into a tug of war between the right and left in America? It took just one president and his equally corrupted and wholly inaccurate opinions on religion, expressed recently in his remarks comparing Islamic terror, the Crusades, and American slavery.4 What Obama failed to point out is that the Crusades ended in the 1200s and Christianity has since eschewed its violent beginnings. Islam? Radicalization is getting worse. Will we soon be asked to accept the terror of Islam as a natural consequence of a developing world?

To be fair, other leaders have echoed Obama’s remarks, including Great Britain’s David Cameron:

We face a poisonous and fanatical ideology that wants to pervert one of the world’s major religions, Islam, and create conflict, terror and death.5

At least Cameron called Islam a major religion, which is true. Our president? He has called it “great.”

5. Liberal values reject Americanism

Do liberal values eschew Americanism in favor of globalism? How else can we explain Obama’s apologies to the world and rejection of torture while ISIS murders children, his open door approach to foreigners who disregard our immigration laws, and his insistence that we work with our allies in any response to terror while Jordan proves that one country can take the initiative against ISIS when its citizens are murdered? There is no other way to explain it. There is certainly no way Americans not brainwashed by liberal politics and its values can forgive it.
